Since volunteering at social enterprise Salvage Row, Jim has gained new skills, made new friends, and decided what he wants to do for a career.
When Jim began volunteering with us , he wasn’t sure what kind of work he was looking for, and where his talents lay. As one of our volunteers we introduced him to a wide range of roles such as deliveries, merchandising, cleaning and developing ideas.
It wasn’t long before Jim’s discovered to his surprise that he had a talent for crafting some of the bespoke furniture we sell in our shop which is a not for profit organisation.
"I never enjoyed wood work at school, but since working at salvage row, I love it. I get the freedom to be creative and the support to learn new skills. My latest protect is a TV stand, it’s great. Working here has given me the courage to be responsible and be creative.
“It’s a great place to work and I would encourage anyone to volunteer , its friendly, so just get involved.”
We love the transformation in Jim who has a positive outlook on his future career and are thrilled he has such positive words to say about what it’s like to be a volunteer
At Salvage Row, young people are at the heart of everything we do. Volunteering with Salvage Row is much more than simply turning in to work and doing the jobs that no one likes . Our volunteering programs help young people gain the real skills needed for lasting employment. The diverse, fun and cultured way we work is evidenced through the progression of our volunteers.
We welcome volunteers from all ages and all backgrounds and have a variety of opportunities available. Contact us or just pop in to find out more.
